Because the retreat was run by other staff, I was able to spend all of my time (other than my talk) just connecting with students rather than taking care of retreat details. I honestly can’t remember the last time that was the case and it was such a blessing! Not only was I able to have a lot of fun just spending time with the girls, but was also able to have MANY very significant conversations. The Lord really used the various components of the retreat to impact girls on a deep heart level and several confronted sin in their lives and took steps of faith to reveal that sin to others for the first time. As a result, many also began to experience the healing that God can produce in our lives when the chains of sin are broken.

Along the seven day expedition up Mount Kilimanjaro, we engaged in discussions and activities to help our spiritual growth. A word that God put on my heart at the beginning of the summer was, BEING. I am very performance-oriented and have a hard time receiving grace. But instead of focusing on always making the right decision and seeking God’s favor, I learned that I only need to be rooted in His love, be still, rest, and listen.

This retreat gave me the courage to open up about my sin. I had the mentality that if I just kept it between me and God it would get figured out. But I was inspired by the talk about repentance to bring it up and share with some of my Cru friends. And I am so glad I did.
